Educate yourself....

As I layed in bed last night and as I read the newspaper this morning I began thinking about what to do next.  I decided the best thing for everyone to do, regardless of your political views, religious views, or moral standards, is to be educated.  I read in the paper that on Monday, September 7th, you can go to http://www.whitehouse.gov/ and read the text for the speech that the President will address to our children on Tuesday the 8th.  I encourage EVERYONE, no matter who or what you support, to be informed.  I plant to read it, I plan to go to our school today and ask the principal what their plans are for the day of the speech.  Will they be using the scripted lesson plans that go along with the broadcast?  Will my children be asked "What they can do to help or serve the President?"  I want to educate myself with the facts.

I had a light bulb pop into my head to day that reinforces the sick feeling I had in my stomach as I watched the glorified Hollywood celebreties pledge themselves to Obama.  I suddenly understood that once you start worshipping or pledging to serve an individual, and not the organization they are appointed, elected, or choose to represent you loose the importance of the organization.  The glory then falls on the individual.  To put it in a smaller context, let's imagine you are the PTA president of you elementary school.  Do you stand up at your meeting and ask people to serve you?  First and foremost, you would (I hope) want all members of the PTA to serve the school, which represents the well being of the children.  Of course, they should respect your office, they should work together, with you, to determine what is best for the school. Hopefully, you would collectively, as a group, make these determiniations.  You would not hand out a scripted plan on what each committee should do or say.  That is what frightens me about this administration.  Had I not seen the "I Pledge" video I probably wouldn't be as concerned about the speech on Tuesday.  Had I not heard there were scripted lesson plans for the teachers to present before and after the video I wouldn't be so cautious.  Had I not heard that there are school districts that are not allowing parents to take their kids out of school I wouldn't be mortified.  This quote is from Fox News, to read the whole article go to:  http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/09/03/parents-object-obamas-national-address-students/

" But some parents won't be allowed to "opt-out" their kids everywhere. At least one school district, Tempe Elementary School District No. 3 in Arizona, is not permitting parents to pull their children out of class during Obama's speech."

I thought this was a free country, how do they not allow parents to pull their kids out of class during the speech.  I am not horrified by the fact that the President is addressing the kids about the importance of education.  I am a firm believer and supporter of learning and education.  It is all the details surrounding this speech that are ultimately scary.

I respect the office of the President of the United States of America.  I believe he/she is elected to represent our country and the citizens who reside here.  I will pledge my loyalty, not to the individual, but to the country they have been chosen to represent, which is the United States of America.  If our nation begins to lean to serving President Obama, who is left to serve our country.  Isn't that what we are supposed to be doing?
